Leila Janah, CEO of Samasource, to Keynote 48th Annual Business Club Luncheon, April 11, 2014

What's New, 2014-03-10

Named by Entrepreneur magazine as one of seven women innovators to watch, CEO of Samasource Leila Janah will keynote Walsh University's DeVille School of Business' 48th Annual Business Club Scholarship Luncheon. Janah will address her globally-acclaimed humanitarian business model that connects, women, youth, and refugees living in poverty to computer-based tasks that build skills and generate life-changing income to employees in both the U.S. and abroad.

The luncheon will be held on Friday, April 11, from 11:30 am to 1 pm in the Barrette Business and Community Center on the Walsh University Campus. Samasource has financially impacted over 17,000 workers world-wide since launching in 2008, helping women and youth who live on less than $3 a day in developing nations by providing better income and teaching useful skills. Samasource was awarded the U. S. Secretary's Innovation award for Empowerment of Women and Girls in 2013.

Janah has also launched a similar domestic program, SamaUSA. Participants attend a 10-week course that meets for two hours, three days a week learning the basics of cloud systems like Google Docs, spreadsheets, Skype and data entry. Graduates can earn $14 to $20 an hour — mostly doing data entry and most work from home. In 2011, Janah cofounded Samahope, a crowd funding site for medical treatments in developing countries.

The Business and Communication Club Scholarship Luncheon brings the business community to the Walsh University campus to provide real-world insights into the world of business. In addition this event raises funds to help support the education of students majoring in business and communications. The luncheon caps off the DeVille School of Business' Entrepreneur Week, a showcase of business innovation and development activities.

The cost is $25 per person or $1,000 for a sponsorship which includes a table for 8. All proceeds benefit student scholarships. Register online at www.walsh.edu/biz.
