1.10.13 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Top Ranked Eagles Beat Cavs

Walsh knew it had a tall task entering tonight’s game against No. 1 Ashland, but the Eagles played as advertised in their 79-53 win over the Cavaliers.  The visitors improved to 16-0 overall and 9-0 in the conference. The Cavs fall to 4-8 overall and 1-7 in the conference. It was the first game in the GLIAC South Division for both squads.

Ashland jumped out to an early lead and remained in front for the duration of the game. The Eagles headed into the halftime break up 41-19.

Lydia Corle (Fr., 5-9, North Canton, OH/Green) and Maggie Berry (Jr., 6-0, Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph Academy) led the Cavaliers with 11 points each. Tracy Payne (Sr., 5-5, Danville, OH/HS/Notre Dame College) added 10 to round out double-figure scorers for Walsh.

Ashley Dorner led Ashland with 20 points off the bench.

The Cavaliers will look to bounce back Saturday afternoon as they entertain Lake Erie. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear white for a whiteout. The first 300 Walsh students with an ID will receive a free white t-shirt at the game on Saturday. The game will be broadcast and streamed live on Teamline.
