1.12.13 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Rally from 10 Down to Beat Lake Erie at Home

Rian Burrell (6-3, So., Zanesville, OH/HS) and Kenny Kornowski (6-9, Sr., Marshallville, OH/Smithville) carried the Cavs in the first half, scoring 27 of Walsh's 37 points. Walsh trailed 41-37 at the half and trailed by eight points at 37-29 with 2:42 to go in the half, before outscoring the Storm 8-4 to end the half.
The Storm shot 56% from the floor in the first half, and came out just as sharp in the second half, as they built the lead to eight points (53-45) and then ten points (55-45) with 14:05 to play.
It was here that Walsh started its comeback. The Cavs closed to withn five points on a Ryan Vanderhorst (6-3, Jr., New Knoxville, OH/HS) jumper and then cut the Storm led to two points (55-53) on a Davonte Beard (6-2, So., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary/Siena) three-point play with 12:35 left.
Walsh finally caught the Storm, and tied the game at 60 on a L.J. Campbell (6-8, So., Weirton, WV/Weir) free throw with 9:16 to play. Walsh took the lead for good on a Vanderhorst jumper at 65-63 with 7:51 left.
Lake Erie closed to within one point at 68-67 with 6:40 to play, but would get no closer.
Burrell led all scorers with 27 points on 10-17 from the floor, 3-3 from three point and 4-4 from the line. Hw also had four assists. Kornowski added 19 points, and is now just 10 shy of 1,000 career points. Beard finished 14 going 6-6 from the line.
Walsh shot 55% from the floor in the second half and outrebounded Lake Erie 34-26. The Cavs took good care of the ball with just eight turnovers.
