Sutton (6-7, Sr., Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) went over the 1,000 point mark in Walsh’s 68-53 American Mideast Conference win over visiting Roberts Wesleyan College (4-13, 1-2).  The win improves the Cavs to 14-3 overall and to 5-1 in the AMC.  Walsh is home to Daemen College in an AMC battle on Tuesday at 8 pm.  Daemen handed Walsh its lone AMC loss (80-73) on January 7 at Daemen.  The game will be broadcast live on NewsTalk 640 AM WHLO and streamed live on Teamline.

Walsh shot poorly (2-11) out of the gate and fell behind 14-6 in the first nine minutes.  Ryan Vanderhorst (6-3, So., New Knoxville, OH/HS) then nailed back-to-back three’s off the bench to spark the offense and get the Cavs back into the game.
With the game tied at 16, Walsh used a 10-3 run to open up a 26-19 lead with 3:50 to play in the half.  Roberts Wesleyan then used a late 10-4 run to close the lead to 30-29 at the half.

The second half belonged to Burrell, as he led the Cavs’ charge scoring all of his game-high 17 points.  Roberts took a couple of one point leads (33-32. 39-38), before the Cavs took the lead for good at 41-39 on a Vanderhorst three with 12:00 minutes to play.  The Cavs went on an 11-4 run to take a 52-43 lead with 8:10 to play.

Roberts would close to five points at 56-51 with 4:08 to play, but would get no closer.

Burrell would go 5-9 from the floor and a perfect 7-7 from the line to tie for game honors with 17 points.  Sutton and Vanderhorst each scored 12 points.  Sutton became the 36th Cavalier to eclipse the 1,000 mark.  He has 1,003 career points.  Vanderhorst was 4-7 from three.

Ron Kinney (6-7, Sr., Cleveland, OH/Rhodes) added 11 points and Brad DuPont (6-0, So., Massillon, OH/Jackson/Wheeling Jesuit) handed out seven assists.
Walsh rebounded and shot 50% in the second half and 46% (24-52) for the game from the floor.
