1.14.12 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Come From Behind to Sink Raiders

Walsh picked up a home victory against Roberts Wesleyan by a score of 58-52 in Alumni Arena Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (8-9, 5-2) trailed by as many as 11 to the Raiders (11-7, 1-2) with 1:20 to go in the first half, but scored two quick baskets in the final minute to make the score 29-22 at the break.

Midway through the second half, Walsh went on a 12-3 run to make the score 37-35 with 9:51 to go. The Cavs eventually took the lead on a basket by Daniella Ciccarone (So., 5-8, Quakertown, PA/Community Senior) with 4:13 remaining. A few minutes later, a pair of Ciccarone foul shots tied the game and then gave Walsh the lead for good at 51-50.

Ciccarone finished with a game-high 21 points on 5-9 shooting from the field and 11-12 from the charity stripe.  Tara Gallupe (So., 6-0, Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) provided a big boost off the bench with 12 points on 4-7 shooting and was 4-4 from the free-throw line.

The Cavs return to action against Daemen at home on Tuesday for another men’s and women’s doubleheader. The women will start with the tip-off at 6 p.m.
