Women's Soccer, 2013-01-02

The Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA) released its All-Ohio and Academic All-Ohio teams and Walsh is represented by six players. Midfielder Gina Pinzone (Sr., 5-6, Cleveland, OH/Padua Franciscan) earned spots on both teams as an Academic All-Ohio First Team and All-Ohio Second Team selection.

Joining her as Academic All-Ohio selections were Molly Martin (Sr., 5-7, Canfield, OH/HS), Kelly Sklenar (Sr., 5-3, Canfield, OH/Cardinal Mooney), Erin Naumann (Sr., 5-1, Medina, OH/Highland) and Lauren Jokovich (Jr., 5-4, Canton, OH/Jackson)). Martin and Sklenar were Academic All-Ohio First Team selections while Naumann and Jokovich were Academic All-Ohio Second Team choices.

Also earning OCSA honors was Jessie Gearhart (Fr., 5-9, Wadsworth, OH/HS), who joined Pinzone as an All-Ohio Second Team selection.

Pinzone started in all 17 games and was an instrumental figure in helping the Cavaliers record shutouts in eight of their nine wins. She was relied upon as a screen in front of the team’s back line as well as a primary distribution player to spread play.

Naumann and Sklenar also played key roles on the back end of the field for the Cavaliers. Both played and started in all 17 games as defenders to help Walsh in recording nine shutouts.

Gearhart made an impact immediately on the offensive end as she led the team in goals with seven and points with 15. Four of those seven goals proved to be game-winning goals, also tops on the team. Martin, a former forward turned midfielder, scored two goals and an assist for five points. Jokovich scored a goal and an assist for three points during the 2012 season.
