10.1.12 MEN'S GOLF: Cavs Finish Fifth at Mt. Union; Cockerham Ties For Best Round of Invite

Walsh finished fifth out of seven teams in the Mt. Union Fall Invitational after shooting a 614 for the two-day event Sunday and Monday. The opening round was played at Tannenhauf Golf Club.  The final round, to be played on Monday, will be at the Alliance Country Club. Ohio Northern won the event with a score of 591.

The Cavaliers were three strokes behind John Carroll and six strokes back from Otterbein. Hosts Mt. Union finished second with a score of 607.

Jeff Cockerham (Jr., Akron, OH/Ellet) scored the best round of the invitational with a 70 and had a total score of 152. He tied the overall medalist Colin Burns from Ohio Northern who scored a pair of 70s. Eric Bowman (Jr., Alliance, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) also shot a 152 with scores of 73 and 79. Both players were tied for 11thoverall. Dennis Finneran (Sr., Wadsworth, OH/HS) tied for 19thoverall and was third on the Cavs with a score of 154 with a 75 yesterday and a 79 today. Carl Lemmon (Sr., Canton, OH/Louisville) tied for 23rdwith an 80 and a 76 for a total of 156. Tyler Bornstein (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) rounded out the team score with an 81 today.

Five other players also participated for Walsh. Chuck Demchak (Jr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) also tied for 11thoverall with a 76 on both days. Brandon Shannon (So., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/Woodridge) was a stroke back with a 74 and 79. Michael Mann (Sr., Louisville, OH/HS) shot a 162 with a 79 and an 83 to tie for 42nd. Stephen Ely (Sr., Brunswick, OH/Padua Franciscan) scored a 165, and Andrew Fox (Sr., Millersburg, OH/West Holmes) scored 170.

Walsh will return to the greens next weekend at the Wittenberg Rosecrans Maurer Invitational.
