10.12.12 VOLLEYBALL: Cavs Win GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Opener

Women's Volleyball, 2012-10-12

(Aurora, IL) Walsh (6-9) rallied to defeat Maryville University (2-17) in five sets in their first match at the fifth annual GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Volleyball Tournament.  The Cavs have two matches left, both tomorrow.  They meet McKendree University at 10 am and UW-Parkside at 4 pm.

After falling in set one 25-16, the Cavs rallied to even the match with a 25-18 set two win.  Maryville would gain control of the match by winning set three 25-23.  As they did in their GLIAC win over Northern Michigan University on Saturday, Walsh would rally to even the match with a 25-19 win in set four and take the match with a 15-10 triumph in the fifth and deciding set.  The Cavs are on a season-high three match win streak.

Paige Chandler (Jr., Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas) led a balanced attack with 16 kills and 12 digs.  Freshman Devin Hummel (Shelby, OH/HS) added 15 kills and a team-high 20 digs.  Julianne O’Donnell (Sr., Willowick, OH/Lake Catholic) had 14 kills and 10 digs and Krissy Sokol (Jr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) added 10 kills.  Hannah Duran (Sr., Elyria, OH/Midview) handed out a match high 51 assists and Emilee Muzechuk (Fr., Mansfield, OH/Madison) added ten digs.
