Walsh (2-5) has retained the Dick Gallagher/John Bankert Memorial Trophy after defeating Malone University (3-4) 35-10 at Fawcett Stadium tonight. The win was third straight over the Pioneers for the Cavs, who lead the all-time series 11-6. Walsh returns to Fawcett Stadium next Saturday to meet Wesley College at 12 pm. The game will be broadcast live on NewsTalk 640 AM WHLO. at 12 pm.

Malone opened the scoring in the second quarter when Nick Allison kicked a 47-yard field goal. Walsh answered on the next possession, driving 60 yards in eight plays and taking the lead on Justin Keith's (6-2, 235 R-Fr., Canton, OH, OH/South) 11-yard run. Walsh expanded the lead to 14-3 when Steve Smith (So., 5-10, 197, Norton, OH/HS) scored on a one-yard run.

On the final drive of the first half Malone drove to the Walsh one-yard line, but failed to score on the final play of the half when the Cavs' defensive front stopped Malone quarterback Josh McLaughlin on a sneak.

Walsh took the second half kickoff and drove 54 yards on five plays, and took a 21-3 lead when Smith scored on a two-yard run. Smith has scored six TDs in the last two games. Walsh struck through the air on their next score, when Jim Shiplett (6-3, 199, Sr., Canal Fulton, OH/Northwest) hit Robert Wigfall (5-10, 179, Jr., Youngstown, OH/Hubbard) in the endzone for a 31-yard touchdown.

Malone scored their only touchdown in the fourth quarter on Malik's Felton's eight-yard run. Walsh closed the scoring when Keith scored on an 11-yard run with 4:57 to play.

Keith rushed for a career-best 177 yards on 29 carries. Smith added 74 yards on 16 carries. Walsh totaled 307 yards on the ground and 414 yards of total offense. Shiplett hit 7-13 passes for 109 yards and connected with Anthony Schrock (6-3, 215, R-Fr., Wadsworth, OH/HS/Akron) six times for 78 yards.

Walsh held Malone to 257 yards total offense, and just 62 yards passing. The Cavs were 5-8 on third conversions and averaged 6.3 yards per play.
