10.15.13 WOMEN'S GOLF: Walsh Captures Phipps Memorial; Hardesty Medalist

(CANTON, Ohio) Walsh shot a season-best 328 to capture the three-team Phipps Memorial Tournament held at Brookside Country Club. Malone University was second with a score of 353 and the University of Mount Union finished third with a score of 392. Walsh’s “B” squad shot 371.

Sophomore Kayla Hardesty (Minerva, OH/Alliance) captured medalist honors after firing a 77 (39-38). She was the only player who had a score on the front or back nine in the 30s.

Jenny Tsangeos (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) finished second with an 81 (40-41), followed by Meghan Hatfield (So., North Canton, OH/Jackson) who finished fourth after shooting 84 (40-44). Raven Venegas (Fr., Lima, OH/Shawnee) shot a 86 (46-40) to finish fifth, and Amanda Griffin (Jr., Tallmadge, OH/HS) finished tied for eighth after shooting 91 (41-50).

Gina Depasquale (Fr., Hubbard, OH/HS) led the “B” squad with an 88 (44-44) to tie for sixth in the individual standings. Paige Victor (Fr., Mentor, OH/HS) placed at 92 (47-45), Taylor Henderhan (So., Massillon, OH/Perry) placed 16th at 99 (51-48) and Brooke Morgan (Fr., Akron, OH/Firestone) finished 17th at 104 (53-51).

The Cavs return to the links this weekend when they travel to Findlay to participate in the Beall Invitational. The two-day event will take place on Sunday and Monday.
