10.18.13 VOLLEYBALL: Lake Superior State Edges Cavs

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) Walsh fell to 4-13 after being defeated by Lake Superior State University (2-12, 2-8) in five sets tonight in a GLIAC match. The Cavs have now lost their last five matches. The Cavs host Saginaw Valley State University in a GLIAC contest at 4 pm tomorrow.
The Lakers won the opening set 25-17. The set was close throughout, with LSSU leading 17-14 before scoring eight of the next eleven points to post the win.
Walsh evened the set with a resounding 25-10 win in the second set. After trailing 2-0, Walsh ran off nine of the next ten points and never looked back.
Lake Superior took a 2-1 lead with a 25-20 win in the third set. The Lakers jumped on the Cavs right out of the gate and led 13-5, before the Cavs rallied to trim the deficit to 13-11. The Cavs would close to 14-13, but would get no closer.
Walsh rallied from an early 6-3 deficit to knot the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth set. After trailing 6-3, Walsh scored 10 of the next 14 points to take control of the set.
Lake Superior opened up a 6-3 advantage when Walsh rallied to take their only lead of the fifth set at 7-6. The last tie was at 9-9.
Kelsey Snider (So., Olmsted Falls, OH/HS) and Krissy Sokol (Sr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) led Walsh with 11 digs each. Sokol added a team-high 14 digs. Paige Chandler (Sr., Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas) chipped in 10 kills and 10 digs. Haley Howell (Fr., Clarkston, MI/Our Lady of the Lakes) handed out 31 assists.
