Men's Cross Country, 2011-10-22
Walsh finished first in the field of four teams in its 3K/5K invitational Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers only ran in the 5K and took four of the top five individual spots and seven of the top 10.
Dan Bauman (Sr., Paris, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) led the pack and finished first overall in a field of 38 runners with a time of 17:00 and was closely followed by Justin Groubert (Fr., Hartville, OH/Lake) with a time of 17:01. Jordan Groubert (Jr., Hartville, OH/Lake) placed third overall with a time of 17:09. Dan Opeka (Sr., Louisville, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished fifth overall with a time of 17:16. Rounding out the scoring for the Cavs was Ryan Garrott (Sr., Georgetown, TX/HS) with a 8th place finish in a time of 17:26. The time spread for the top five was 26 seconds.
Jackson Zaremba (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) finished 9th with a time of 17:35 and Travis LeVan (So., Tallmadge, OH/HS) finished 10th with a time of 17:37 to serve as the Cavs' displacers.
"I decided to run everyone in the 5k today as a VO2max workout a week out from the Ohio Independent Championships," said Cavs Head Coach Christopher Straub. "We had a beautiful fall day but faced ankle deep mud over much of the course. The guys just continue to show progress with each passing week. It was good to see a senior win on his home course. That will be a special memory for Danny. It's always fun to win. Winning the 5k race with only 19 points was a nice moment for our team."
Walsh will host the Ohio Independent Championships next Saturday.
