Men's Soccer, 2011-10-24

Undefeated Notre Dame narrowly defeated Walsh in a 2-1 decision, snapping the Cavaliers 13-game win streak Monday evening at Milazzo Field. The Falcons now stand at 15-0. The Cavs drop to 14-2 with their first loss since September 9 when they fell to Aquinas by a 2-1 score in overtime.

Both teams played a scoreless first half despite Notre Dame outshooting Walsh 16-7. Mike Kelley (Jr., 6-0, Chagrin Falls, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) was excellent between the pipes with 10 saves in the first half. He finished the game with 11.

The Falcons scored first in the 50th minute when Christian Earnest took a ball played off the defender and took a shot from the right side of the box. Walsh scored the equalizer when Chris Lynch (So., 6-2, Bellbrook, OH/HS) headed it in off a corner kick assist by Nate Milhoan (Sr., 5-11, Hartville, OH/Lake) in the 61st minute. The tie was short-lived as Notre Dame scored the game winner 10 minutes later on a free kick by Erik Beattie.

Walsh will next be in action at Malone on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
