10.27.11 MEN'S SOCCER: Cavs Fall to Malone in Double OT; Truax Breaks Points Record

Men's Soccer, 2011-10-27

Walsh fell in its second straight contest this week, this time by a 2-1 double overtime decision at the hands of rival Malone. The Pioneers (9-7) scored with less than two minutes to go to upset the Cavaliers (14-3).

Ben Truax (Sr., 6-1, Manfield, OH/St. Peters) scored the lone goal for Walsh on an assist from Jordan Semple (Jr., 5-7, North Canton, OH/GlenOak) three minutes into the game to give the Cavs a quick 1-0 lead. It was his 20th goal of the season and broke the record for all-time career points by a single player at Walsh. Truax now has 119, breaking Craig Kench's record of 118 set between 1997 and 2000.

Malone tied the game in the 25th minute on a hard shot that deflected off of goalkeeper Nate Rech's (Sr., 6-0, Lordstown, OH/HS) hands. Rech made eight saves on the day.

The Cavs are off until Sunday when they close out the regular season at Ohio Dominican University. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
