10.27.13 MEN'S SOCCER: Cavs' Early Goal Not Enough at Tiffin
Men's Soccer, 2013-10-27
(TIFFIN, Ohio) - Walsh’s upset bid over Tiffin came up short as the Dragons scored two back-to-back goals midway through the second half for a 2-1 win. The Cavaliers are now 5-10 overall and 5-8 in the GLIAC. Tiffin (10-2-2, 8-2-2) came into the game as the No. 3 team in the Midwest Region.
The Cavaliers lone goal came from Quebec Gibbins (Sr., Canton, OH/Jackson) as he put a ball through to the right side of the goal just 2:12 into the game. It was one of the few offensive opportunities Walsh had in the game as the Cavs generated only eight shots in the game. Still, the Cavs held a 1-0 lead for the majority of the game.
In the meantime, Tiffin’s offense kept the Cavs’ defense on its toes with shot after shot. The Dragons averaged nearly a shot every three minutes with 33 total in the game. Tiffin eventually scored when Karl Jones received his own rebound after a shot and hit the back of the net the second time around at 64:54. Just under six minutes later, the Dragons took the lead on Andre Carvalho-Landell’s goal from 15 yards out.
Despite the many shots, Justin Nolan (Sr., Medina, OH/Highland/Ashland) was strong in goal with nine saves.
Walsh is now off until next week when it will entertain Ohio Dominican, the top-ranked team in the Midwest Region. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
