10.27.13 WOMEN'S SOCCER: Cavs Strike Oilers 2-0

Women's Soccer, 2013-10-27

(FINDLAY, Ohio) - Walsh wrapped up a perfect week after defeating Findlay by a score of 2-0 Sunday afternoon. With wins against Malone and Tiffin earlier in the week, the Cavaliers (6-8-2, 3-7) are on a three-game win streak heading into the last weekend of the season.

Emily Durina (So., Youngstown, OH/Austintown Fitch) started the scoring with a breakaway shot to the left side on the assist from Jessie Gearhart (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) at 26:36. Durina has been on fire as of late as she has scored all five of her goals this season in the last four games.

Just under 11 minutes later, Kristen Conti (So., Hartville, OH/Lake) followed suit with an attempt that rolled into the left side on the assist from Madison Strausbaugh (Fr., Wooster, OH/Waynedale) for a 2-0 lead.

The score held up for the remainder of the game as Dani Shambaugh (Fr., Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) and Michaella Stucky (So., Medina, OH/HS) combined for the clean sheet. Shambaugh made two saves before Stucky came in for the last 50 minutes and made one save. Altogether, Findlay outshot Walsh 13-6.

The Cavaliers, who now have an outside shot at making the playoffs, will attempt to keep the streak going against Northern Michigan this Friday. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
