10.29.11 FOOTBALL: Cavs Blank Taylor 22-0; Keith Rushes for 205 Yards
Behind the running of Justin Keith (6-2, 235, R-Fr., Canton, OH, OH/South) and the relentless play of the defense, Walsh (3-6) won its third game of the season with a 22-0 shutout of Taylor University (4-4). Walsh will look for its second straight win next Saturday, when they host Concordia University at 3 pm at Fawcett Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on NewsTalk 640 AM WHLO and streamed live on TEAMLINE.
Keith rushed for a career-high 205 yards and scored twice in the win. He scored on a two-yard run at 1:30 of the first quarter, and then again with 2:21 to play on a three-yard run to close the scoring. In between, the Cavs scored on a safety at 9:34 of the fourth quarter to take a 8-0, and on a 30-yard pass from Jim Shiplett (6-3, 199, Sr., Canal Fulton, OH/Northwest) to Anthony Schrock (6-3, 215, R-Fr., Wadsworth, OH/HS/Akron). The Cavs scored 16 fourth quarter points.
The defense was magnificent all night, limiting Taylor to 131 yards total offense. The Cavs pressured Taylor back-up quarterback Adam Middlesworth the entire game. Middlesworth was 7-26, with one interception for 59 yards. The Cavs held the Trojans to just 72 yards rushing.
Pat Kane (6-1, 192, Sr., Bolivar, OH/Tusky Valley) and Nathan Filut (6-3,225, So., Strongsville, OH/HS) each had eight tackles and Brandon Mingo (5-9, 161, Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) intercepted a pass, On special teams, Tony Stover (6-2, 203, So., Akron, OH/Northwest) returned four punts for 152 yards, with one return of 75 yards. For the Cavs it was their first shutout of the season and first since game two (Quincy 38-0) of last season.
Shiplett was 12-19 for 199 yards. He connected with Schrock six times for 122 yards. Walsh rolled-up 481 yards total offense.
