Men's Cross Country, 2011-10-29
Walsh (79) finished third at the Ohio Independent Championships, hosted by the Cavs today. Malone University (16) finished first and Cedarville University (46) second. Notre Dame College placed fourth (119) and Urbana University (150) fifth.
Justin Groubert (Fr., Hartville, OH/Lake) placed ninth in a time of 26:45.79 to pace the Cavs. Jordan Groubert (Jr., Hartville, OH/Lake) was next with a 17th place finish at 27:17.80. Ryan Garrott (Sr., Georgetown, TX/HS) placed 18th (27:18.64), Dan Opeka (Sr., Louisville, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished 19th (27:25.32), Dan Bauman (Sr., Paris, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) 20th (27:25.45), Matt Roshak 25th (27:52.70) and Jackson Zaremba (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) 27th (28:02.18).
"Our goal today was to finish 3rd and break up the scoring with Malone and Cedarville. We did exactly that," said Head Coach Christopher Straub. "At the All-Ohio meet a month ago, our top guy finished 20 seconds behind Malone's No. 7 and Cedarville's No. 5. Today our No. 1 harrier freshman Justin Groubert finished 20 seconds in front of Malone's No. 7 and four seconds in front of Cedarville's No. 5. Justin actually beat Cedarville's No. 3 today."
"To top it off our whole pack moved up significantly this season," added Straub. "Our No. 5 today, Danny Bauman in 20th place, was just 20 seconds back from Malone's No. 7. So our whole scoring team finished where out top runner did a month ago. We really had a great season and have accomplished all we set out to do so far. The guys and I will now take a short break before gearing up for the indoor track and field season which begins in 6 weeks with our first meet at Kent State."
