10.30.12 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Fall by 12 to Buckeyes

Men's Basketball, 2012-10-30

(Columbus, OH) Preseason number four Ohio State defeated Walsh 83-71 in an exhibition game at Value City Arena tonight.  In this, the seventh meeting between the two teams was the best the Cavs have performed on the big stage.

Walsh shot well and led most of the first half, carrying numerous six-point leads.  OSU finally regrouped in the final two and a half minutes with their pressure defense and built a 39-30 halftime lead.  Walsh shot 56% from three-point in the first half, with Brad DuPont (6-0, So., Massillon, OH/Jackson) hitting three from beyond the arc.

OSU led the entire second half, but could not completely pull away from the Cavs.  Their largest lead was 16 points.  Each time they looked to extend the lead big, the Cavs would climb back into the game.

Jeff Copeland (6-5, So., Toledo, OH/ST. John’s Jesuit) led the Cavs with 16 points off the bench on 6-9 from the floor and 3-3 from the line.  Kenny Kornowski (6-9, Sr., Marshallville, OH/Smithville) added 12 points and Jesse Hardin (6-1, Fr., Warren, OH/Harding) had 11 points off the bench.  DuPont had nine points and Hrvoje Vucic (7-1, Jr., Split, Croatia/Faust Vrancic/Valparaiso) led the Cavs with seven rebounds and had eight points.

Deshaun Thomas of Ohio State led all scorers with 25 points.

A replay of tonight’s game will air on the Big Ten Network at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Walsh plays an exhibition game at the University of Dayton on Sunday at 7 pm.
