10.6.12 VOLLEYBALL: Cavs Sweep GLIAC Weekend Matches

After defeating Michigan Tech on Friday, Walsh made it a perfect weekend with a five-set win over visiting Northern Michigan University (12-6, 5-4) today at Alumni Arena. The win raised Walsh’s overall record to 5-9 and their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record to 3-6.
After dropping the first set 29-27, Walsh bounced back to even the match with a 25-21 win in set two. The Wildcats gained control of the match in set three, however, winning 25-23. Walsh would rally to even the match with a 25-21 win in set four and take the match with a 15-12 triumph in the fifth set.
Julianne O’Donnell (5-10. Sr., Willowick, OH/Lake Catholic) led Walsh with 18 kills, while adding 11 digs. Krissy Sokol (5-9, Jr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) had another solid day with 11 kills, 10 digs and 6 blocks. Brittany Morris (5-11, Sr., North Royalton, OH/Padua) chipped in 8 kills and 13 digs and Devin Hummel (5-8, Fr., Shelby, OH/HS) had 6 kills and a team-high 17 digs. Hannah Duran (5-9, Sr., Elyria, OH/Midview), who battled an ankle injury and left the match during the first set, returned and handed out a match-high 43 assists.
