10.6.13 WOMEN'S SOCCER: Cavs Rained on by No. 1 Grand Valley

Women's Soccer, 2013-10-06

(ALLENDALE, Mich.) - Despite horrible weather conditions, Walsh stood toe to toe with the No. 1 team in the nation for a half, but eventually fell 7-0 to Grand Valley State. The Cavaliers (3-6-1, 0-5) limited the Lakers (8-0-1, 6-0) to one goal in the first half, but then the hosts showed why they’re the top team as they added six goals within 20 minutes in the second half. The majority of the game was played in a constant downpour.

Grand Valley took the lead with a goal by Shelby Humphries in the 31st minute. She was only getting started as she added a pair of goals in the second half for a hat trick. It was the second game in a row that the Lakers scored six goals in the second half.

Michaella Stucky (So., Medina, OH/HS) made 10 saves on the rainy afternoon. Dani Shambaugh (Fr., Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) came in and added eight.

Walsh returns home after four consecutive games on the road with a match against Ohio Dominican on Friday. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the men’s soccer team.
