10.7.12 WOMEN'S TENNIS: Eagles Rally to Thwart Cavs Upset Bid

After Walsh opened their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match with Ashland with a 3-0 sweep of double actions, the Eagles rallied to take five of six singles matches to post a 5-4 win. The win improves the Eagles to 10-1 overall and in the GLIAC, while the Cavs record falls to 2-9 overall and in conference play. Walsh is back in action next Friday, when they host Hillsdale College at 3 pm at the Klekotka Tennis Complex in GLIAC play.
Shellie Webster (Sr., Lexington, OH/HS) and Kayla Shaheen (Sr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) posted an 8-6 win at first doubles. Alisha Angle (So., Lexington, OH/HS) and Allison St. George (Sr., Boardman, OH/Cardinal Mooney) followed suit with an 8-4 win at second doubles and Mary-Catherine Beck (Sr., Alliance, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Arina Kravitz (Fr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) rolled to an 8-4 win at third doubles.
Singles action belonged to the Eagles. Walsh’s only singles victory was posted by Shaheen, who came away with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory at fourth singles.
