11.06.12 VOLLEYBALL: Malone Downs Cavs in Four

(North Canton, OH) Malone University (17-9, 10-6) completed a season sweep of Walsh (9-5, 6-10) after defeating the Cavs in four sets tonight in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. For Malone, it marked their first season sweep of the Cavs since 2005.  After taking the first set 25-21, the Cavs fell 21-25, 20-25 and 22-25.  The Cavs close the season at home this weekend, hosting Ohio Dominican University on Friday (7 pm) and Tiffin University on Saturday (2 pm).

Julianne O’Donnell (Sr., 5-10, Willowick, OH/Lake Catholic) led the Cavs attack with a match-high 19 kills. She also added 19 digs.  Krissy Sokol (Jr., 5-9, Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) was next for the Cavs with 12 kills.  Emilee Muzechuk (Fr., 5-9, Mansfield, OH/Madison) recorded a match-high 26 digs.  Senior setter Hannah Duran (5-9, Grafton, OH/Midview) dished out 36 assists and Devin Hummel (Fr., 5-8, Shelby, OH/HS) added 14 digs, which gave her over 1,000 for her career.

Lauren Townley led Malone with 12 kills; Jackie Schwamberger handed out 37 assists and had 17 digs.  Katie Hassebein added 20 digs.
