11.12.12 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Rout Allegheny in Season Opener

(North Canton, OH) Walsh (1-0) won its ninth straight season opener, 95-61, over visiting Allegheny College (0-1) tonight at Alumni Arena.  The Cavs are now idle until November 20, when they host Wilberforce University.

Walsh led from start-to-finish in registering the season opening victory.  The Cavs scored the first seven points and never looked back.  Allegheny closed to 14-10 at 13:34, when the Cavs went on a 13-2 run to pull away.

Walsh placed four players in double figures, led by Kenny Kornowski’s (6-9, Sr., Marshallville, OH/Smithville) double-double.  Kornowski had 14 points and 14 rebounds.  Jesse Hardin (6-1, Fr., Warren, OH/Harding) came off the bench to pace the Cavs with a game-high 16 points on 5-6 from the floor and 5-5 from the line. 

Rian Burrell (6-3, So., Zanesville, OH/HS) added 15 points and Davonte Beard (6-2 So., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary/Siena) added 14.  Each shot 6-10 from the floor.

Walsh shot 57 % (38-67) from the floor, which included a 62% in the second half.  The Cavs out rebounded the Gators 46-26. 

Clark Tritto led Allegheny with 15 points.
