11.15.13 VOLLEYBALL: Cavs Claw, But in Columbus to ODU

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) Walsh (5-22, 2-15) fell in four sets at Ohio Dominican University (13-16, 7-10) in a GLIAC match in Columbus tonight. The Cavs close the regular season at Tiffin University tomorrow morning at 11 am.

The Cavs trailed from start to finish in the first set and lost 19-25. Walsh jumped to an early 6-2 lead before the Panthers came to life. ODU would rally and take a 14-13 when Walsh went back to work. The Cavs took a 17-16 lead in a set that would go back and forth until they pulled out a 25-20 win to even the match.  Paige Chandler (Sr., Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas) had seven kills in the set.

ODU rallied from a 22-20 deficit to take a 2-1 match lead with a 26-24 win in set three. The match was tied at 24 when the Panthers took the lead on a Cavaliers' attack error, and then won the set on a kill from Lauren Rindler. Chandler and Krissy Sokol (Sr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) each had four kills in the set.

Walsh junped to an early 5-0 lead in set four, but couldn't sustain the momentum as the Oiler won the set 25-23 to win the match 3-1.  With the set tied at 6-6, the Oilers used a 9-0 run to take control of the set. Walsh trailed 15-7 when they rallied to cut the lead 18-15, and then 19-17 on a Chandler kill. They would then close to 21-19, 22-20, and 22-21 on a Sokol kill. ODU took a 24-22 lead when Sokol would again put the ball down to pull the Cavs to with a single point at 24-23. ODU would then seal the match on a Cavs' attack error. Sokol had five kills.

Chandler led Walsh with 16 kills. Solol added 12 kills and 15 digs. Chandler also had a doulbe-double with 10 digs. Janelle Yunker (So., Marysville, OH/HS) posted a season high 22 digs. Haley Howell (Fr., Clarkston, MI/Our Lady of the Lakes) handed out 33 assists and had 10 digs.
