1.17.13 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Win Third Straight; Kornowski Reaches 1,000 Points

(Columbus, OH) Walsh (10-4, 6-4) won its third straight game, 78-64, at Ohio Dominican University (3-13, 0-11) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game tonight. The Cavs are now just one-half game behind South Division leader Findlay, who lost 61-60 at Ashland. Walsh returns home on Saturday to meet Tiffin University at Alumni Arena at 1 pm. The game will be broadcast live on WNPQ 95.9 FM.
The Cavs defeated ODU for the 13th time. Behind balanced first half scoring, Walsh led 40-34 at the half. Kenny Kornowski (6-9, Sr., Marshallville, OH/Smithville), who eclipsed 1,000 career points in the second half had nine first half points and six rebounds. Jeff Copeland (6-5, So., Toledo, OH/St.John's Jesuit) had 10 points and Rian Burrell (So., 6-3, Zanesville, OH/HS) and Davonte Beard (6-2, So., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) each had eight first half points.
Walsh quickly extended the lead to 14 points on a 10-2 run to start the second half and never looked back. Kornowski reached the 1,000 point mark at 11:11 on a free throw.
The Cavs placed four players in double figures and received double-doubles from Burrell and Kornowski. Burrell finished with a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Kornowski added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Beard scored 18 points on 6-9 from the floor and 5-6 from the line and Copeland tallied 12 points.
