11.20.12 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Take Bite Out of Bulldogs

(North Canton, OH) Walsh improved to 2-0 with a 106-73 non-conference win over visiting Wilberforce University (3-5) tonight.  The Cavs have one more non-league game before opening GLIAC play on November 29, when they host Akron-Wayne College next Monday at 7 pm.  The Cavs open GLIAC play at home with Northern Michigan University on November 29 on 6 pm.

After two early ties and four lead changes, Walsh took control midway through the first half and led 51-32 at the half.  The Cavs shot 51% (22-43) from the floor and 46% (6-13) from three-point in the first 20 minutes, led by Brad DuPont’s (6-0, Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) 23 points, four assists and four steals.  DuPont was 3-5 from behind the arc in the first half.  Hrvoje Vucic (7-1, Jr., Split, Croatia/Faust Vrancic/Valparaiso) added nine first half points. 

The second half was all Walsh, as they outscored the Bulldogs 55-41, shooting 54% from the field.  Vucic finished with 20 points and seven rebounds, and was aided by Kenny Kornowski’s (6-9, Sr., Marshallville, OH/Smithville) 19 points and 11 rebounds.  Kornowski has posted a double-double in each of the first two games.

DuPont finished with 13 points, six assists and five steals.  Rian Burrell (6-3, So., Zanesville, OH/HS) had 16 points and six rebounds and Davonte Beard (6-2, So., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary/Siena) added 10 points as all Cavalier starters reached double figures.

Walsh finished the night shooting 52% from the field and 43% from three-point.  The outrebounded the Bulldogs 4-36.

Wilberforce senior Darius Foster led all scorers with 29 points.
