11.26.12 MEN'S BAKETBALL: Cavs Rout Akron-Wayne

(North Canton, OH) Walsh (3-0) rolled to their third straight win, with a 122-58 rout of visiting Akron-Wayne College (1-6) tonight. The Cavs open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at home on Thursday night against Northern Michigan University at 6 pm. The game will be broadcast live on WNPQ (95.9) and streamed live on TEAMLINE.
Walsh trailed just once, at 2-0, before building a 67-19 halftime lead. The Cavs shot 64% (24-42) from the floor in the first half and forced the Warriors into 19 turnovers. Brad DuPont (6-0, Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) scored 16 first half points on 6-7 from the field and 3-3 from three-point. Rian Burrell (6-3, So., Zanesville, OH) connected on 6-7 fielders and had 14 first half points, with Davonte Beard (6-2, So., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary/Siena) adding 13 points.
Despite Akron-Wayne going on a 17-6 run to start the second half, the Cavs were never challenged and led by 67 points with 1:58 to play.
Nikola Knezevic (6-2, Sr., Belgrade, Serbia/Conotton Valley) scored a career-high 18 points off the bench. DuPont finished with 16 points, Beard, 15, Burrell 14 and Jeff Copeland (6-5, So., Toledo, OH/St. John’s Jesuit) 10 points off the bench. All 14 Cavaliers played and scored.
Walsh shot 54% for the night and 40% from three-point. They out-rebounded the Warriors 50-33. Josh Henniger (6-5, R-Fr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds off the bench for Walsh.
