11.3.11 MEN'S SOCCER: Bly's Goal Sends Cavs into OIC Title Game Against Notre Dame
Men's Soccer, 2011-11-03
Second-seeded Walsh came from behind to defeat Cedarville in the semifinals of the Ohio Independent Championships at Milazzo Field Thursday afternoon. The Cavs’ (15-4) win ended the Yellow Jackets (12-6) seven-game win streak.
Cedarville’s Zack Gatlin opened the scoring when he sent the ball from outside of the box over goalkeeper Mike Kelley’s (Jr., 6-0, Chagrin Falls, OH/NDCL) head shortly after the start of the second half in the 47th minute. The lead was short-lived, however, as Chad Flath (Sr., 5-10, Wadsworth, OH/HS) answered with the equalizer on an assist from Jordan Semple (Jr., 5-7, North Canton, OH/GlenOak) that gave Flath a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper in the 50th minute. Matt Bly (Jr., 5-10, Bellbrook, OH/HS) scored the game winner off of a rebounded shot in the 74th minute to give the Cavaliers the 2-1 advantage. Kelley recorded the win and made five saves on the day.
With the win, the Cavaliers advance to Saturday’s OIC championship against top seeded Notre Dame College, who blanked Malone University 2-0 in the other semifinal. The game will be played at Brush High School and will start at 7 pm.
