11.3.13 WOMEN'S SOCCER: Michigan Tech Overpowers Cavs

Women's Soccer, 2013-11-03

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh fell to Michigan Tech by a score of 3-1 on the final game of the season on a sunny day at Milazzo Field. The Cavaliers end their season with a record of 6-9-3 overall and 3-8-1 in the conference. The Huskies will go on to play in the conference tournament with a record of 12-4-1 overall and 9-2-1 in the GLIAC to earn the No. 2 seed.

The Huskies opened up the score with a goal by Annie Dahlquist on the assist from Katie Boardman just 7:30 into the game. Michigan Tech then made it 2-0 on a lobbed shot from Lexi Herrewig three minutes later.

However, Walsh remained competitive and kept the Tech defense true. The Cavs’ pursuit was rewarded when Jessie Gearhart (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) was fouled in the box to give Walsh a penalty kick. Lauren Jokovich (Sr., 5-4, Canton, OH/Jackson) then stepped up to take the free chance and was true to cut the deficit to 2-1 at 16:32.

That score stood until the 41-minute mark when the Huskies added the final goal by Jacqueline Mielke from 25 yards out. The 3-1 score held up for the remainder of the contest.
