11.4.13 MEN'S SOCCER: Cavs Travel to Saginaw for GLIAC Playoff

Walsh (5-10-1, 5-8-1) travels to Saginaw, Michigan for their first men’s soccer GLIAC playoff game on Tuesday, when they face Saginaw Valley State University (9-3-5, 8-2-4) in a GLIAC quarterfinal playoff contest at 2 p.m. Walsh is the number six seed in the six-team tournament and Saginaw Valley is the third seed. The other quarterfinal game pits No. 5 Northwood University (5-9-1, 5-8-1) at No. 4 Lake Erie College (7-7-2, 6-7-1), also at 2 pm. Ohio Dominican University (10-2-4, 9-2-3) is the top seed and Tiffin University (11-2-3, 9-2-3) is the number two seed. ODU and Tiffin shared the regular season championship. The semifinals will be held in Columbus on Friday (11.8.13) at Panther Field.
Saginaw Valley won both regular season meetings by shutouts. They blanked the Cavs 3-0 on September 22 in Michigan, and 4-0 at Walsh on October 13. In the first meeting, the Cardinals scored five minutes into the contest, and then again with 15 minutes to play in the half and led 2-0 at the break. They would add another insurance tally at the 74:20 mark. The Cavs were outshot 25-8. In the October 13 game, SVSU scored twice in each half and outshot Walsh 20-12.
The Cardinals, who played in the NCAA ll National Championship game last year, have recorded three ties, one win and one loss in their last five games.
Walsh battled GLIAC co-champion Ohio Dominican University to a 2-2 double overtime tie in their final regular season game on Sunday. The Cavs are 1-3-1 in their last five games.
