Men's Soccer, 2011-11-05

(Lyndhurst, OH) Top seeded Norte Dame College (18-0) edged the second-seeded Cavs 3-2 in the Ohio Independent Championship game played at Brush High School tonight. Walsh closes the season 15-5, but dropped four of its last five games.

Notre Dame opened up a 2-0 lead on goals by Christian Earnest and Martin Lange at the 26:05 and 33:28 marks. The Falcons took a 2-0 into the locker room at halftime and outshot the Cavs 17-5 in the first half.

Walsh climbed back into the game at 51:57 when George Moga (Sr., 5-10, Akron, OH/Springfield) (pictured left) scored on header off a free kick from 40 yards out. Nathaniel Milhoan (Sr., 5-11, Hartville, OH/Lake) recorded the assist. It was the sixth goal of the season for Moga. Notre Dame would answer 30 seconds later when Erik Beattie scored on a rebound to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead.

Walsh cut the lead to 3-2 on Jordan Semple's (Jr., 5-7, North Canton, OH/GlenOak) unassisted breakaway goal. For Semple, it was his sixth goal of the season.

After three goals were scored in less than three minutes, it appeared the flood gates had opened. But it turned out that Semple's goal was the final tally, as Notre Dame held on for the 3-2 win, and the Ohio Independent Championship.

The Cavs were outshot 30-10. Notre Dame had the edge 5-3 in corner kicks and had 12 fouls to Walsh's 10.
