Men's Soccer, 2013-11-08

(BAY CITY, Mich.) - Walsh University’s Justin Nolan (Sr., 5-11, Medina, OH/HS) has been selected the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men’s Soccer Goal Keeper of the Year for 2013. Additionally, Chris Lynch (Jr., 6-2, Bellbrook, OH/HS) also earned post-season accolades as he was selected to the All-GLIAC Men’s Soccer Team as an honorable mention.

Nolan started all 17 games for the Cavs and made 108 saves on the year. Before the GLIAC playoffs, he ranked eighth in the nation in saves with 103 and saves per game with 6.44 per game.

Nolan recorded three shutouts with a 1-0 win against Malone, a 2-0 win at Lake Erie, and a 1-0 win against Northwood. He reached the double digits in saves with 10 in a 4-2 decision over Findlay at home on October 30. He came within one save of double-digit stops in two other games. This is the second consecutive season Nolan has earned post-season honors. In 2012, he was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team.

Lynch also started all 17 games for Walsh and scored six goals and two assists on the season. Earlier this year, he was named the GLIAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week after he scored a hat trick in a 4-2 win over Findlay.

Lynch’s other goals came against Cal (Pa.), a 2-0 win at Lake Erie, and a 2-2 draw against then-No. 19 Ohio Dominican to close out the regular season. He also recorded assists in games at Findlay and at home against Lake Erie.

The Cavs finished 5-8-1 in the GLIAC this year and qualified for the conference playoffs.
