Women's Basketball, 2013-12-12

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh fell in its third consecutive contest to Northwood by a score of 68-53 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Action Thursday night. The Cavaliers are now 3-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play. The Timberwolves improve to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Northwood scored the first points of the game on a 3-pointer and never trailed the rest of the way. The Cavaliers didn’t go down without a fight and threatened near the end of the first half. Down 24-15, Walsh went on a 9-0 run to tie the game on a 3-pointer by Tara Gallupe (Sr., 6-0, Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth). The Timberwolves responded with a 7-2 run to close the half and went into the locker room up 31-26.

The Timberwolves started the second half hot and quickly pushed to a 43-29 advantage with 16:32 to play. Walsh then proceeded to go on an 8-0 run, largely in part to Gallupe who scored six of those points to go with an Audrey Badovick (Jr., 5-5, Norwalk, OH/St. Paul) layup, to pull within six, but Northwood answered again with an 8-0 run of its own and led by double-digits the rest of the way.

Despite the loss, Gallupe had a big night with a game-high 25 points on 9-of-19 shooting to go with eight rebounds, also a team high. The Cavs were otherwise cold from the floor as they shot 29.6 percent for the game.

Walsh will look to rebound from the loss in two days as the Cavs entertain Lake Superior State. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
