12.17.11 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Rout Host Northwood
Women's Basketball, 2011-12-17
(West Palm Beach, FL) Warm weather proved to be a good tonic, as Walsh (6-4) made it a clean sweep in the Sunshine State with an 82-51 rout of host Northwood University (2-8) this afternoon in the Step It Up Classic. The Cavs return home on Tuesday night to meet Southwestern College at 6 pm. The game will be broadcast and streamed live on TEAMLINE.
Walsh came out of the locker room hot, shooting over 50% from the field in building a 42-23 halftime advantage. The second half was also all Walsh, as the outscored the home team 40-28.
The Cavs balanced attack received strong efforts from Tracy Payne (5-5, Jr., Danville, OH/HS/Notre Dame College), Maggie Berry (So., 6-0, Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph) (pictured left) and Kristi Yoder (Sr., 6-1, Millersburg, OH/Hiland). Payne, the Cavs leading scorer, led the way with 14 points, shooting 5-9 from the field and 3-4 from three-point. She also grabbed five rebounds. Berry added 13 points, six assists and four steals, while Yoder scored 10 points, grabbed a game-high eight rebounds to go with two assists and two blocked shots.
Daniella Ciccarone (So., 5-8, Quakertown, PA/ Quakertown Community) also handed out six assists and Tanisha Lawler (5-7, Fr., Euclid, OH/Hathaway Brown) five. Whitney Dabbelt (Fr., 6-0, West Carrollton, OH/Archbishop Alter) grabbed six rebounds and recorded six steals.
