12.19.13 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Dabbelt's Double-Double Lifts Cavs to Second Straight Win

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) Whitney Dabbelt’s (6-0, Jr., West Carrollton, OH/Archbishop Alter) second straight double-double lifted Walsh (5-4) to a 77-64 win over visiting Saint Joseph College (2-5) in a non-league contest at Alumni Arena tonight. The win was the second straight for Walsh. The Cavs are now idle until January 2, when they resume GLIAC play at Wayne State University.

The Cavs snapped a 19-all tie late in the first half, and used a 17-9 run to take a 36-28 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Pumas would close to within a point at 40-39 with 16:15 to play, but would get no closer. From the 14-minute mark on, Walsh’s lead would stay above six points. The Cavs would lead by 14 points (73-59) with 2:55 to play.

Dabbelt put together her second straight double-double with a career-high 19 points and 12 rebounds. She was 9-13 from the field. Kelsey Funderburgh (5-7, So., North Lewisburg, OH/Triad/Morehead State) led Walsh with 20 points to go with seven rebounds, and Tara Gallupe (6-0 Sr., Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) added 16 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Saint Joseph’s Jasmyne Reynolds led all scorers with 24 points.
