12.20.13 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Cool Off Trailblazers

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) Walsh (6-2) snapped a two-game losing streak with a resounding 94-61 win over visiting Ohio Christian University (6-10) tonight at Alumni Arena. The Cavs are now idle until January 2, when they resume Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Wayne State University. The Cavs then travel to Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday, January 4. Both games will be broadcast live on WNPQ FM, 95.9.
Walsh trailed once, at 4-3, and then took the lead for good at 5-4. They would shoot 50% from the floor in the first half and take a 49-21 lead into the locker room. Jeff Copeland (6-5, Jr., Toledo, OH/St. John’s Jesuit) led the way with 10 points and five rebounds in the first half. Jesse Hardin (6-1, So., Warren, OH/Harding), Hrvoje Vucic (7-1, Sr., Split, Croatia/Faust Vrancic/Valparaiso) and Chall Montgomery (6-4, So., Cleveland, OH/Central Catholic/Naval Academy) each had eight first half points
Walsh would lead by as many as 38 points in the second half, and shot 54% on 20-37 in the final 20 minutes.
Five players reached double figures, led by Copeland’s game-high 17 points.
Montgomery was 6-9 from the field and finished with 15 points, and a game-high eight rebounds. Davonte Beard added 13 points and Vucic and Trey Fletcher (6-6, Fr., Ironton, OH/HS) each tallied 12 points. Brad DuPont (6-0, Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson/Wheeling Jesuit) handed out a game-high nine assists.
Walsh held OCU’s leading scorer, Wesley Russell, to just two points, 14 points under his average. Evan Mills led the Trailblazers with 15 points.
Walsh out-rebounded OCU 50-26. The Cavs were also 11-13 from the foul line.
