12.28.11 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Win First Game in Canada

(Toronto, Canada) Walsh (10-1) won its first game at the Ryerson Inviational in Toronto, as they defeated Guelph University 87-66. The Cavs, the defending champions of the tournament, play on Thursday at 8 pm against tourney host Ryerson. The Rams defeated Sheridan 101-79. . The win was the seventh straight for the Cavs.
Walsh trailed only once, at 3-0. The Cavs then ran off eight straight points and eventually led 46-40 at the half. Walsh began to pull away when they outscored the Gryphons 23-9 in the first ten minutes of the second half. The Cavs held their largest lead at 87-61 with 26 seconds to play.
The Cavs placed four players in double figures, and were led by Kenny Kornowski's (6-9, Jr., Marshallville, OH/Smithville) (pictured left) game-high 22 points. Kornowski was 8-14 from the field and 6-7 from the line. He also grabbed nine rebounds.
Ron Kinney (6-7, Sr., Cleveland, OH/Rhodes) and Rian Burrell (6-3, Fr., Zanesville, OH/HS) each tallied 14 points. Kinney was 6-12 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds. L. J. Sutton (6-7, Sr., Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) added 13points and six rebounds. Sutton finished 7-9 from the floor.
Walsh shot 56% from the field and 64% from three-point on 7-11.
