12.3.13 SOFTBALL: Cavs' Softball Adds Six During Early Signing Period
(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh University Softball Head Coach Jaime Porter has announce the six commitments who have signed during the early signing period to play for the Cavaliers in 2015. They include Paige Darnell-Smith (North Canton, OH), Magdalena Kurtis (Massillon, OH), Danni Murtaugh (Dover, OH), Olivia Pifer (Loveland, OH), Mariah Rock (Canal Winchester, OH), and Anne Woolf (Louisville, OH).
Darnell-Smith will be a four-year letter winner as a catcher at Green High School. She was All-Suburban League Honorable Mention last season, hitting .384 with a pair of home runs. During her sophomore year, she hit .376 for the season.
Kurtis will be a four-year letter winner as a catcher at Perry High School. In 2013, Kurtis was a Stark County High School All-Star Selection after she hit .387 with two home runs and 20 RBI. Kurtis was previously an All-Federal League Honorable Mention.
Murtaugh will be a four-year letter winner as a first and second baseman at Dover High School. She was the 2013 ECOL Player of the Year after hitting .500 with four home runs and 38 RBI. Murtaugh has helped lead Dover to three sectional titles and won district championships in 2012 and 2013. She currently holds the school record for doubles in 2013.
Pifer will be a four-year letter winner as a pitcher at Loveland High School. She was Player of the Season in 2013 and Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. Pifer was an All-ECC First Team selection after she lead her team to the ECC League Championship last season. She holds the school record for most strikeouts in one game with 17 and most no-hitters with five.
Rock will be a three-time letter winner as an outfielder at Bishop Hartley High School after winning a letter at Canal Winchester High School. She was an All-Mid States League selection after she helped Canal Winchester to the league championship in 2011. Rock made the OHSFSCA Central District Team and was a member of a district runner-up team at Bishop Hartley.
Woolf will be a four-time letter winner as a catcher and third baseman at Louisville High School. She has been a member of three NBC championship teams, helped her team to a district championship appearance in 2013, and was an All-NBC Second Team selection. Last year, Woolf hit .500 with four home runs and 35 RBI. She is the younger sister of the Cavaliers’ Assistant Coach Katie Woolf.
