12.3.13 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Receive Votes in Top 25 Poll

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh University women’s basketball team has received votes for the latest USA Today Sports Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll released this afternoon. The Cavaliers (3-1) received 15 votes by the board of coaches that’s made up of 33 head coaches at Division II institutions.
Bentley University in Massachusetts (7-0) tops the list with 29 first place votes. Gannon University in Pennsylvania (6-0), who defeated the Cavs by a score of 80-68 in a close contest on November 13, remains second in the nation and received the other two first place votes. Emporia State (Kan.), Nova Southeastern (Fla.), and Colorado Mesa round out the top five teams.
Other GLIAC schools that received votes included Ashland and Northern Michigan. The Eagles received 80 votes while the Wildcats picked up 25.
Head Coach Maria Marchesano’s squad will start the conference schedule against those same Wildcats on Thursday at Northern Michigan. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on 95.9 WNPQ.
Walsh was last in action against Maryville on November 16. The Cavaliers used a strong second half to propel them to an 87-76 victory. The Cavs were scheduled to play Clarion last Tuesday, but inclement weather cancelled the game.
