12.30.11 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Defeat Blues for Bronze

(Toronto, Canada) Walsh (11-2) defeated the University of Toronto 96-82 at the Ryerson Invitational in Toronto this afternoon. The Cavs played their first game without leading scorer Kenny Kornowski (6-9, Jr., Marshallville, OH/Smithville) who injured his knee on Thursday night.

Walsh shot 57% from the field in the first half, but led only 41-36 at the half. Walsh shot a blistering 63% (20-32) in the second half and outscored the Varsity Blues 50-31.

Ron Kinney (6-7, Sr., Cleveland, OH/Rhodes) continued his outstanding play with a game-high 25 points. Kinney was 10-29 from the floor and 3-3 from three-point. Walsh set school mark by connecting on all ten three-point attempts.

L. J. Sutton (6-7, Sr., Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) supported Kinney with 18 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Rian Burrell (6-3, Fr., Zanesville, OH/HS) started in place of Kornowski and connected on 8-10 from the field in scoring 17 points.

Ryan Vanderhorst (6-3, So., New Knoxville, OH/HS) had his second straight strong effort with 14 points. Vanderhorst was a perfect 5-5 from the floor and 4-4 from behind the arc. Cameron Mitchell (6-4, So., Cincinnati, OH/Taft) added 11 points.
