12.30.11 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Eagles Soar By Cavs

(Ashland, OH) Ashland University (10-1) led from start-to-finish in defeating Walsh (6-7) 72-43 at Kates Gymnasium tonight. The win was the tenth straight for the NCAA D ll 25th ranked Eagles and the third straight loss for the Cavs. Walsh returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Point Park University for a 2 pm start. The game will be broadcast live on Teamline.
Ashland came out of the gate quickly and scored the first 12 points. Walsh got on the board at the 14:43 mark on a Kristi Yoder (Sr., 6-1, Millersburg, OH/Hiland) basket. Ashland led by as many as 16 points (27-11), as the Eagles' Kari Daugherty scored 17 of her game high 23 points.
Ashland kept the Cavs at bay in the final 20 minutes, outscoring them 34-20.
Daugherty led all scorers with 23 points. She also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Tanisha Lawler (Fr., 5-7, Euclid, OH/Hathaway Brown) came off the bench to lead Walsh with 10 points. Yoder had seven points and seven rebounds.
