12.6.12 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Drop First GLIAC Game

Men's Basketball, 2012-12-06

(Midland, MI) Northwood University (2-5, 1-2) handed Walsh (5-1, 2-1) its first loss of the season, 77-60, in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game.  The Cavs are back in GLIAC action on Saturday at Lake Superior State at 1 pm.

The Timberwolves handed the Cavs their first loss on the strength of three-point shooting and work on the offfensive glass.  The Timberwolves hit 7-14 from three-point in the first half and built a 39-28 halftime lead. They turned six offensive rebounds into seven points and outrebounded the Cavs 19-12.

Walsh was never able to trim the lead into single digits in the second half.  After trailing by as many as 16 points, Walsh cut the lead to 10 at 64-54 with 6:44 to play, but were unable to get any closer.

GLIAC South Player of the Week Kenny Kornowski (6-9, Sr., Marshallville, OH/Smithville) led all scorers and rebounders with  21 points and 9 rebounds.  Davonte Beard (6-2., So., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary/Siena) added 16 points and Jesse Hardin (6-1, Fr., Warren, OH/Harding) had 13 off the bench.

Booker Stoudmire led Northwood with 20 points.  Wes Wilcox added 19.

Northwood outrebounded the Cavs 42-32.
