2.14.13 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Kornowski Powers Cavs to GLIAC Win

(North Canton, OH) Walsh University (15-6, 11-6) remained in the hunt in the GLIAC South after defeating Ohio Dominican University (4-19, 1-17) 92-59 at Alumni Arena tonight. The Cavs remain in third place, one-half game behind second place Hillsdale College and a game a half back of South Division leader Findlay. The Cavs take their modest two-game win streak to Tiffin University on Saturday for a 1 pm tip-off. The game will be broadcast live on 95.9 FM, WNPQ.
Walsh, winners in 10 of their last 13 games, had no trouble in disposing of the slumping Panthers for the second time this season. Walsh won the first meeting in Columbus in January. The loss was the fifth straight for ODU and their 18th in the last 19 games. Walsh has won the last 14 meetings with Ohio Dominican.
With the game tied at 14-14, Walsh used a 17-0 run to open things up and led 44-31 at the half.
The second half was all Walsh, as they shot 66% (19-29) from the floor and were never challenged. Kenny Kornowski (6-9, Sr., Marshallville, OH/Smithville) hit 13-15 from the floor and led all scorers with 28 points, and with 13 rebounds. Brad DuPont (6-0, Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) added 14 points, 7 steals and 5 assists and
Davonte Beard (6-2, So., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary/Siena) hit 6-9 from the floor and also tallied 14 points.
Walsh shot 60% for the game. They outrebounded the Panthers 40-28 and recorded 15 assists and 10 steals.
Morgan Jones led ODU with 21 points and Bobby Stauffer added 17.
