2.19.14 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Fifth in First Regional Polls

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – On the heels of last week’s first NCAA national ranking in school history, Walsh is ranked No. 5 in the first Division II regional rankings. The No. 22-nationally ranked Cavaliers are 19-3 overall with a 16-3 record against in-region opponents.

Walsh is in the Midwest Region which comprises of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). The conferences’ tournament champions receive an automatic bid to the 64-team national tournament which is divided up into eight regions. The highest ranked team in each region hosts the first three rounds of the national tournament. The remaining six bids go to the highest regionally ranked teams after the tournament champions have been selected.

Defending national champion Drury, Mo., is ranked No. 1 in the region with Indianapolis ranked at No. 2. Fellow GLIAC member Lake Superior State is listed at No. 3. Southern Indiana rounds out the top five at No. 4. Lewis, Truman, Findlay, Michigan Tech, and Wisconsin-Parkside complete the top 10.

Two of the top eight teams will meet on the court Thursday night as the Cavaliers take on the Oilers who come in with an 18-4 record. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. following the women’s game. It is Senior Night and all fans are encouraged to where white for a White Out.
