2.2.12 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Fall Short
Women's Basketball, 2012-02-02
(Urbana, OH) Urbana University (8-12) stopped Walsh's (12-12) three-game win streak with a 71-66 win over the Cavs. For the Blue Knights it was the fourth straight win. Earlier this season the Cavs pounded the Blue Knights 83-54 at home. Walsh is now idle until Tuesday night when they host Roberts Wesleyan College in an American Mideast Conference game at 6 pm.
Walsh kept the contest close in the first half and trailed only 30-27 at halftime. Walsh came out cold in the second half, and Urbana took full advantage. The Blue Knights outscored the Cavs 9-2 in the first four minutes to lead 39-29. The Cavs stayed ice cold from the floor as Urbana built the lead to 44-29 at the 14:19 mark. The Blue Knights' 14-2 run to start the second half was just too much for the Cavs to overcome.
Urbana held their largest lead at 58-42 with 4:58 left. Walsh made one last run in the final minutes and cut the lead to five points at 67-62 with 21.6 seconds to play, but ran out of time.
Tracy Payne (5-5, Jr., Danville, OH/HS) paced the Cavs with 16 points. Daniella Ciccarone (5-8, So., Quakertown, PA/Community Sr.) added 14 points and Kristi Yoder 13 (6-2, Sr., Millersburg, OH/Hiland).
DeVonyea Johnson led Urbana with 21 points. Ciara Geiger added 19 points.
