2.22.12 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Too Much for Urbana, Win 90-66

Walsh led from start to finish as the Cavaliers dominated Urbana 90-66 on the road Wednesday night in a non-conference game. The Cavs (23-5) needed only 5:33 to build a double-digit lead on the Blue Knights (7-18) and kept such a margin for the remainder of the game.

Offense was the name of the game as the Cavaliers shot with a steady hand throughout. The first half saw Walsh shoot 58.6 percent. The Cavs gave an encore performance and made 59.4 percent of their shots in the bottom half. Defense also helped provide separation in the first half as Urbana shot only 29.4 percent from the floor in the opening period.

Leading the way for Walsh were standout freshman Rian Burrell (6-3, Zanesville, OH/HS) and Ron Kinney (Sr., 6-7, Cleveland, OH/Rhodes/Charleston). Both players hit eight field goals as Burrell tallied 19 points and Kinney scored 18. Jeff Copeland (Fr., 6-5, Toledo, OH/St. John’s Jesuit) came off the bench to put in 15 points, and L.J. Sutton (Sr., 6-7, Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) rounded out the double-figure scorers for Walsh with 12 points. Cameron Mitchell (So., 6-4, Cincinnati, OH/Taft) crashed the boards hard for Walsh as he pulled down 12 caroms.

Walsh closes the regular season this Saturday with Notre Dame College. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. It will also be the 50thAnniversary of Walsh Men’s Basketball with the All-Time Top 10 Games list revealed and the All-Time Top 50 Players presented at halftime. A reception will follow in the old gymnasium in the Cecchini Center.
