2.26.12 BASEBALL: Cavs Split; Link 6-6 in Win

(Portsmouth, OH) Walsh (1-3) won its first game of the season in a split doubleheader at Shawnee State University. Walsh lost 14-4 to Baldwin-Wallace, but then rebounded to defeat Shawnee State University 13-5. The Cavs are idle until they play in Florida this weekend.
Baldwin-Wallace scored 10 runs in the first inning in routing the Cavs 14-4. The Yellow Jackets downed the Cavs 16-5 yesterday. Cory Johnston (6-1, Jr., Medina, OH/HIghland/CCC) was the starter and loser after being touched for five hits and eight runs in one-third of an inning. Jordan Tucker (Sr., University Heights, OH/Cleveland Heights) was 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI.
Right-fielder Drew Link (So., Granville, OH/HS) had a career day going 6-6, with 3 runs scored and one RBI. All six hits were singles. Walsh opened up the game with 3 runs in the fourth inning and 5 in the fifth to take a 12-2 lead. Tyler Jones went 3-5 with a double and 3 RBI and Trevor Smith (Jr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) was 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI. Steve Wido (Jr., North Royalton, OH/Padua Franciscan) and Forrest Boggs (Jr., Suffield, OH/Field/Mercyhurst) each drove in two runs, and R. J. Vukovich (Jr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) was 2-5 with a double and RBI. Travis Danner (Sr., Medina, OH/HS/CCC) started and worked the first five innings in earning the win. He allowed four runs on five hits. Freshman Joe Tann (Fr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) worked three innings in relief and allowed only two hits and one unearned while fanning four.
