Men's Basketball, 2012-02-26
Cedarville University (18-8, 7-2) and Walsh (24-5, 5-2) are seeds one and two for the upcoming Ohio Independent Championships. Seeds were based on winning percentage in games against other OIC participants. The Yellow Jackets and Cavs and each have earned opening-round byes in the six-team championship tournament. Walsh plays the winner of Tuesday's Notre Dame/Central State game at 3 pm at Cedarville on Friday. The game will be broadcast live on FoxSports 1350 AM.
The other four teams will compete in first-round games on Tuesday, February 28th with the No. 3 seed hosting the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 squad hosting the No. 5 team. The tournament semifinals and championship game will then be held March 2nd and 3rd (Friday-Saturday) at Cedarville.
Malone University (12-14, 5-5) and Central State University (18-8, 3-3) both finished with .500 records in OIC play but because the Pioneers lost a tie-breaking coin flip on Friday, the Marauders will compete as the No. 3 seed. Tuesday’s opening-round match-ups will feature No. 5 Urbana University (8-18, 2-7) at No. 4 Malone and No. 6 Notre Dame College (10-16, 1-6) at No. 3 Central State.
Walsh just closed the regular season with 78-59 win over Notre Dame on Saturday. The Cavs last played Central State in the 2000-01 season, losing 81-74.
