Men's Basketball, 2014-02-04

Walsh University guard Chall Montgomery (6-4, So., Cleveland, OH/Central Catholic/U.S. Naval Academy) has been named the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week, for games played between January 30 and February 3.

Montgomery came off the bench in all three games, and played a major role in Walsh’s road win at Findlay, and two home wins vs. Hillsdale and Malone. His three dunks and two three pointers sparked Walsh at Findlay as the league-leading Cavs handed the Oilers a rare home loss. It was dunks and three’s again, in Walsh’s 24-point win over Hillsdale. In the win over rival Malone, his three 3-pointers, and key rebound and stick-back in the final seconds enabled Walsh to hold off rival Malone.

Montgomery averaged 16.3 points and 6.0 rebounds for the week, while shooting 57% from the field and 88% (7-8) from three-point. For the season he is averaging 7.6 points, and is shooting 57% from the floor.

The Cavs received 13 votes in the latest NCAA ll rankings and are ranked 28th. Walsh is 15-3 overall and leads the GLIAC South Division with an 11-3 mark. The Cavs are home to Ashland University on Thursday night (7:30 pm) and to Lake Erie College on Saturday (3 pm).
